In 1984, Enver Hoxha's memoir was published: «When the foundations of the new Albania were laid». “This book evokes for us the memories and history of the grandiose work that laid the foundations of popular power in Albania, at the same time it is for us a teaching and a message from the founder and director of this work. For this reason, precisely because the work and the foundations were described by the founder himself, it is of great importance for us and is particularly dear to us."
Addressing Enver Hoxha again in 1985, on the occasion of the death of the leader of the Albanian people, now recognized as one of the most eminent Marxist-Leninists in the entire world, Kadarè wrote: "As the creator and architect of the new Albania, Enver Hoxha is in at the same time this also applies to our sciences, our arts and our literature. He was the great friend of writers and artists with whom he had many things in common... Those writers and artists who were fortunate enough to know him and converse with him, retain unforgettable in their memory the emotional power, the depth, the multifaceted character, the intimate warmth and at the same time the monumentality of his words".
In 1990 he left Albania asking for political asylum in France. In recent years he has given nauseating interviews on several occasions.
